2022 Chardonnay, Santa Catalina Island Vineyards
Santa Catalina Island's El Rancho Escondido was founded by Alison's family in 1930, and for decades was a working Arabian horse ranch. After Geoff and Alison's first date there - some 33 years ago - they began to dream of planting a small vineyard overlooking the ocean in the pastures where horses once grazed. That long-standing dream is now represented in this bottle.
The classic cool-climate conditions and clay loam soils that exist on Catalina Island make it a world-class site for Chardonnay. The resulting wine exhibits old-world, silky complexity, including bright, light vanilla flavors with hints of minerality, and aromas of California's famed citrus and white flowers.
